Scarlett Johansson and Chris Hemsworth appear in the trailer for Paramount’s “Transformers One.”
Paramount has released the trailer for “Transformers One,” the animated prequel featuring Chris Hemsworth, Brian Tyree Henry and Scarlett Johansson in the lead roles.
Chris Hemsworth voices the young Optimus Prime, later known as Orion Pax, while Henry portrays D-16, later to become Optimus’ rival, Megatron.
The trailer shows the two start out as simple worker bots, unable to transform into anything. But soon they gain the ability to transform into vehicles and gain weapons, as a battle against a mysterious plant-like villain takes place on the Transformers’ home planet, Cybertron.
Other cast members include Scarlet Johansson as Elita, Keegan-Michael Key as Bumblebee, Jon Hamm as Sentinel Prime, and Laurence Fishburne as Alpha Trion.
Hemsworth and Henry unveiled a first look at the prequel film April 11 at CinemaCon.
The franchise first hit the big screen with an animated film in 1986 before director Michael Bay launched a live-action series in 2007 starring Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox in “Transformers.”
The film grossed $700 million at the box office and spawned five sequels and spinoffs. ”
Transformers: Rise of the Beasts,” the latest entry, debuted last summer and grossed $439 million at the global box office.
Steven Spielberg executive produced “Transformers One” with Brian Goldner and Brian Oliver. “Toy Story 4” filmmaker Josh Cooley directed “Transformers One.” Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari wrote the script for the prequel.
“Transformers One” will hit theaters on September 20.
