Russia called for “restraint” after Israel attacked Iran, a key partner of Moscow
Russia has called for “restraint” after Israel launched a military strike on Iran, a country with a close strategic partnership with the Kremlin.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said during a call with reporters on Friday that Russia was “studying” the details of the attack, and that it would be “too early to comment” until its nature became clear.
But Peskov added: “In any case, no matter what, we continue to support restraint on the part of the parties and the rejection of actions that could provoke rising tensions in the difficult region.”
Russia has relied on Iranian weapons during its ongoing invasion of Ukraine, often targeting Ukrainian cities with Iranian-made Shahed drones.
The two countries have a close partnership; Moscow has for years bought drones and ballistic missiles from Iran, while providing Tehran with investment and trade.
