The Simpsons: all characters were eliminated from the show

The producers of The Simpsons recently apologized to fans of the show after longtime background character Larry “the Barfly” Dalrymple was killed off on the show.

From Mona Simpson to Maude Flanders and Fat Tony.. Here are all The Simpsons characters who died or were written off the show in its 35 seasons.

Murphy’s ‘Bleeding Gums’

A jazz musician who first appeared in season one’s “Moaning Lisa,” Murphy served as Lisa’s inspiration and mentor before dying of a heart attack in season six.

Maude Flanders

Wife of Ned Flanders and regular character on the show, Maude tragically died in season 11 after being hit by a t-shirt fired from a cannon at Springfield Speedway.

Dr. Marvin Monroe

Introduced in the first season, Dr. Monroe offers the Simpsons therapy before his death is confirmed in “Episode 138 of the Spectacular.” His tombstone and the Marvin Monroe Memorial Hospital were later shown in the series.

Rabbi Hyman Krustofsky

Springfield’s respected rabbi and father of Krusty the Clown, was introduced to the show in the third season when Bart and Lisa tried to reunite the father and son. In the season 26 episode, ‘Clown in the Dumps,’ Krusty asks the Rabbi if he thinks he’s funny to which he replies, “Eh,” before slumping into his chair and dying.

Mona Simpson

Homer’s estranged mother Mona appears in flashbacks of his childhood before reappearing in the seventh season. Despite attempts to reconnect with his son, Homer learns of his death after finally agreeing to reconcile with him.

Tony is fat

Springfield mafia boss Fat Tony died in season 22 of a suspected heart attack. He was replaced by his cousin, Fit Tony, who later became the new “Fat Tony”.

Edna Krabappel

A teacher who appeared in the first 25 seasons of the show, Edna retired following the death of her voice actress, Marcia Wallace, in 2013, out of respect for the actress.

Apu Nahasapeemapetilon

The character was quietly axed a few years ago following controversy that the character was racist against South Asians.

The character’s voice actor Hank Azaria later also apologized “to every Indian” for his portrayal of Apu in the show.
