The minister condemned the increase in the price of fertiliser
Federal Minister for Industries and Production, Rana Tanveer Hussain, condemned the unilateral increase in the price of Sarsabz Urea fertilizer by Fatima Fertilizer Limited on Saturday.
He expressed deep concern over the hike of Rs561 per bag of urea and urged the fertilizer company to withdraw this unilateral hike, a news release said.
The minister stated that the fertilizer company must provide a strong justification for the sudden increase in the price of Sarsabz Urea.
He stressed that there is no increase in gas prices for the fertilizer industry, adding that an increase in urea fertilizer prices without a corresponding increase in gas prices is unacceptable and unjustified.
Hussain said, if he fails to provide a solid justification, the relevant ministry will determine the price according to the law.
He emphasized the government’s commitment to protect farmers’ interests and ensure the stability of fertilizer prices. Efforts are being made in collaboration with provinces to eliminate hoarding of fertilizers, while a mechanism is being developed to check real-time fertilizer stock availability, he added.
