Dune: Part One (2021)
Denis Villeneuve’s cinematic take on Frank Herbert’s 1965 novel features Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides in the sci-fi epic. Dune: Part One begins the story on the planet Arrakis, where there is a conflict over “spices,” the most valuable substances throughout the universe that can extend life and enhance other abilities. Crisis on Infinite Earths Part One (2024)
With the help of John Constantine, Barry Allen — aka The Flash — travels through parallel worlds trying to prevent multiple Earths from being destroyed. Traversing the multiverse also means encounters with many villains such as Lex Luthor and Amazo. It’s DC’s best multiverse storyline. Avatar: The Way of Water (2022)
The sequel to James Cameron’s 2009 film, Avatar: The Way of Water, finds Jake Sully as the leader of the Na’vi tribe raising his own family on Pandora. More fighting ensues as the colonists return and pose a threat to the world, forcing Jake and his family to flee. To survive and defeat their enemies, they learn the ways of the sea clan. The Avatar universe continues to grow with these films, with three more on the horizon over the next five years.

Belle (2021)
Reimagining the fairy tale of Beauty and the Beast, Belle is an anime that takes its protagonist to a virtual world. Suzu is an introverted high school student, but when she discovers “U”, virtual reality, she creates Belle, an alternate persona. Belle becomes a very popular singer, but a beast interrupts one of her plans and everyone hunts her. He also wants to reveal the truth about this “beast”.
X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014)
Now is a good time to revisit the film, with Deadpool 3 on the way and the X-Men ’97 TV series on Disney Plus. The film sees the superheroes jump through the timeline to save the 2023 version where the Sentinels are eradicating mutants and humans possessing mutant genes. Magneto and Professor X’s bond is explored with Wolverine, Hank and Quicksilver among the heroes tapped to save everyone in the 2023 timeline.
War Games (1983)
Artificial intelligence violence, ’80s style! Matthew Broderick stars as David Lightman, a smart high school kid who also happens to be a hacker. He unwittingly hacks the military’s computer system and thinks he’s playing a game as the opposing party: the Soviet Union. David’s actions prompt a series of military backlash and attacks as the supercomputer AI holds the fate of the world in its hands.
