“The Tortured Poets Department”: Fans claim Taylor Swift copied Olivia Rodrigo’s song “Get Him Back!”

Taylor Swift faced criticism from fans of Olivia Rodrigo after she released a song that bore similarities to a song previously released by Rodrigo.

Swift’s song “imgonnagetyouback” and Rodrigo’s 2023 song “Get Him Back!” not only has the phrase ‘get her back,’ but the phrase has the same double meaning in both songs.

In both songs, the lyrics describe wanting to get back together with an ex and get revenge on them.

Reddit user chrkrose also noted the similarities between the song’s lyrics, with Oliva writing: “I’m gonna lock her car (I wanna get her back) / I’m gonna make her lunch (but then, I wanna get her back) / I wanna see her mom (but then , I want to get him back) / Just to tell him his son is drunk (but then, I want to get him back)”

Similarly, Taylor wrote: “Whether I’ll be your wife or / Gonna smash your bike, I haven’t decided yet / But I’ll get you back / Either I’ll curse you out or / Take you back to my house, I haven’t decided yet / But I’ll take you back.”

Fans also remember how Swift was credited on Rodrigo’s song “Deja Vu” in 2021 when fans realized the chords were the same as those found in Swift’s song “Cruel Summer.”

Now, fans on Reddit have come to Olivia’s support after noticing the similarities.

Reddit user b00m_cat wrote, “I think Taylor is a little jealous of Olivia because Olivia is the cool girl that Taylor really wants.”

Another user, Luna_Soma commented, “Even if he wrote this before Olivia’s song, he could have left it off the album.” Continuing, “It sounds similar to Olivia’s song thematically and it doesn’t fit the mood of the album. It’s just bad all around”
