‘Set Free From My Sin’: Hollywood Actor’s Mission to ‘Give Hope,’ Share Faith

Actor Brett Varvel is on a mission to spread faith and hope through Hollywood.

The “County Rescue” star recently joined CBN News to discuss his role as Andy, an EMT on the new American Big Family series.

The show combines faith and drama to create an engaging and faith-strengthening narrative.

“The thing we’re exploring in this show that might be different from other medical dramas is that we’re getting into the interpersonal work of this ensemble that we have on screen,” Varvel said. “And we look at real-life questions: What do you do when you’re trying to find your purpose in life? What do you do when things don’t go your way? What do you do when tragedy strikes?”

He said “County Rescue” combines faith, family, romance, and more, showing what goes on in the lives of EMTs who “put themselves in harm’s way every day” to save the lives of others.

The biggest differentiator, of course, is trust, something Varvel calls “a key component to the show,” which is also streaming on Great American Pure Flix.

In addition to discussing the show, Varvel also shared his passion for performing and creating content in the family-friendly, family-friendly TV and film space:

 

“When I was 18, I entered a short film that I made into a statewide art competition in Indiana, where I’m from,” he said. “It’s just a declaration of what Jesus has done in my life. I have been freed from my sins. I have been reborn.”

And Varvel’s film won first place in the state, which really surprised him. The actor said he was very inspired when he heard his film had brought a man to Christ.

“My film was playing and I heard about a janitor who spied his head and ended up giving his life to Jesus after watching my film,” he said. “And it was like, at that moment, I saw a new direction in life that God wanted me to take, which was to take the talents and abilities that He had given me and proclaim hope to the people.”

Since then, Varvel has used his skills to create films and TV shows, mixing his passion for entertainment with his efforts to share Jesus. “County Rescue” is the latest continuation of that mission.

“What I have always stood by myself is, I want to know the truth found in the Word of God, the biblical promises that we see that will lead us to hope in life, eternal life in Jesus,” said Varvel. “And that’s why I love shows like ‘County Rescue.'”
