More than 17 political trends about ‘X’ marked ‘sensitive’

More than 17 political streams on microblogging platform X (formerly known as Twitter) have been marked as sensitive, authorities revealed on Wednesday.

According to officials from the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), a report was compiled following three months of close monitoring of social media activity, particularly focusing on trends that have the potential to spark riots or promote extremist ideologies, including “violence and racism.”

The report’s findings shed light on how political trends often target important events such as general elections and national security institutions, hinting at a worrying trend of online unrest and disinformation campaigns.

Additionally, the report highlights that the majority of anti-national rhetoric observed on social media originates from individuals residing abroad.

The Punjab police and prominent figures reportedly suffered undue criticism in the topic of these trends, with nine trends identified as having a communal tone.

Similarly, ten trends were monitored in relation to nationalism, with specific mention of Balochistan and Gwadar.

In response to this revelation, officials from the CTD have vowed to take strict action against individuals found to be causing chaos through social media platforms. As part of their efforts, the CTD has taken steps to block 2,836 pages and websites deemed to be contributing to the spread of online discord.

Furthermore, authorities have identified two new organizations that have been actively involved in the dissemination of content through social media channels.
