Billie Eilish has “never been a happy person”

Billie Eilish has spoken about her struggles with mental health issues and being famous.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, published on April 24, the singer detailed his experience of depression.

“All my life, I’ve never been a happy person, really,” he began. “I’m a happy person, but not a happy person. I experience joy and laughter and I can find pleasure in things, but I’m a depressed person. I’ve had a lot of depression throughout my life.”

The singer went on to admit that, although he often clings to the thought that these feelings will “pass”, they were important in writing his latest album, “Hit Me Hard and Soft,” “If I don’t suffer somehow, I don’t feel happy about what which I did.”

He continued, “I think this album is me. It’s not a character. It felt like ‘When We’re All Asleep, Where Do We Go?’ my version. It feels like my youth and who I was as a child.”

The nine-time Grammy winner emphasized the importance of experiencing pain for his work, “A lot of my art is physically painful in a lot of ways, and I love that. Oh my God, I live for it.”

However, while Eilish found the ordeal rewarding, she also discussed the “ugly side of fame”, adding that she keeps a dog to ward off stalkers who have previously managed to break into her home.

“Just because [my dog] is anxious doesn’t mean he can’t rip your face off if you come into my house,” she revealed. “It’s the bad part of fame – a weakness that ordinary people who aren’t famous rarely think about.”

The two-time Oscar winner spoke about feeling deprived of a normal experience, “I haven’t been out for five years. How am I supposed to have an experience?”

Despite her lack of experience growing up, she expressed her determination to live a normal life, “If I do it right, I can exist.”
