Palestinian excavation operations have found about 20 additional bodies in the mass graves found at the Nasser Medical Complex, Civil Defense director Khan Younis told CNN Wednesday.
The 20 bodies found are in addition to the 324 already found by the Palestinian civil defense, as CNN previously reported. The total number of recovered bodies now stands at about 344.
“We sorted and assembled the bodies because most of them were dismembered,” said Colonel Yamen Abu Suleiman, who oversaw the excavation.
The mass grave was discovered at a hospital in the southern Gaza city of Khan Younis by Civil Defense workers after Israeli forces withdrew from the area.
In response to a CNN investigation into the mass graves at the Nasser Medical Complex, the Israeli military said “allegations that the IDF (Israel Defense Forces) buried Palestinian bodies are groundless and baseless.”
The United Nations in a statement on Tuesday called for an “independent, effective and transparent investigation” into the discovery of mass graves in two Gaza hospitals after they were besieged and stormed by Israeli forces earlier this year.
