Anne Hathaway talked about a possible third installment of The Princess Diaries, saying, “We’re in a good place.”

“That’s all I can say. Nothing to announce yet. But we’re in a good place,” the Devil Wears Prada star said during an interview with V Magazine.

The 41-year-old Hathaway originally portrayed Mia Thermopolis in the first Princess Diaries film released in 2001, reprising her role for the 2004 sequel, The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement.

She stars alongside Julie Andrews, 88, who played her grandmother, Empress Clarisse Renaldi in both the original film, which follows Mia’s journey after learning she is the princess of Genovia, and the sequel.

Despite Hathaway’s enthusiasm, Julie Andrews expressed uncertainty about the possibility of a third Princess Diaries movie during an interview with Today last month.

Andrews said, “It’s been a while since the two Diaries were finished, and I’m not sure, but sometimes it’s better to leave the good stuff alone. I don’t like it when people milk and milk and milk the subject. , you know, ’til it dies.”

“There’s been dialogue about it,” Andrews explained, “nothing has materialized. And I think I might be wrong, but I think it’s been put on hold now. I’m not sure.”

However, he stated, “I would be very happy if we did another one. But I don’t expect it.”

In 2019, Hathaway mentioned during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen that there was “a script for a third movie.”

She expressed her enthusiasm for the project, stating, “I want to do it. Julie wants to do it. Debra Martin Chase, our producer, wants to do it. We all really want it to happen. We just don’t want it unless it’s perfect because we love it as much as you love it,” he said at the time.

“It’s as important to us as it is to you, and we don’t want to release anything until it’s ready, but we’re working on it,” Hathaway added.
