King Charles III’s cancer diagnosis has caused concern among friends and courtiers.
The Daily Beast’s Tom Sykes reported, “speaking to friends of the king in recent weeks about his health, the most common response was … ‘It’s not good.'”
A royal friend noted that Charles was “determined to beat him and they threw everything at him,” adding, “Everyone remains optimistic, but he’s really unwell. More than they let on.”
Tina Brown, a royal writer, suggested that Charles’ cancer has brought Prince William and Kate Middleton closer to becoming king and queen sooner than they had planned, potentially undermining their desire for privacy while raising their children.
“The prospect, I am told, causes them great anxiety.”
Sykes also reported that the king’s funeral plan was codenamed “Operation Menai Bridge” and was currently being reviewed.
The Daily Beast reports that there are documents circulating detailing the successes and areas for improvement from Queen Elizabeth’s September 2022 funeral, aimed at making better preparations for the funerals of future monarchs.
While all sources emphasize the ongoing review of royal funeral plans, a former staff member admitted that Charles’ health problems have accelerated the need to update these plans.
“The plans have been scrapped and are being actively updated,” the former employee explained.
