‘Destruction like an earthquake.’ Palestinians return after Israeli forces withdraw from Nuseirat, in central Gaza
Dozens of Palestinians visited the central Gaza neighborhood of Nuiserat last week, after Israeli forces withdrew.

Residents in Gaza say they are desperately trying to salvage valuables from homes destroyed by Israeli strikes, as they survey the area in horror.
“On the second day of Eid al-Fitr rockets started attacking us,” Abu Mohammad Farajallah, a displaced resident, told CNN on April 18. “We came back after a week to attack houses and buildings, there was nowhere to live.”
Earlier this month, Israeli forces withdrew from Nuseirat and left behind much rubble, damaging residential buildings and destroying water, sanitation and waste collection services, Palestinian officials told CNN. Israeli attacks in the neighborhood left at least 500 people dead, injured or missing, said Gaza Civil Defense spokesman Mahmoud Basal. CNN was unable to confirm the estimate and contact the Israeli military about the scope and purpose of its attack on Nuseirat.
Another resident, Hassan Al Habbash, compared the destruction to an “earthquake.”
“We have never witnessed such destruction in history,” added the doctor, who wears glasses and a curly white beard. “I came back and found my house demolished.”
