World Central Kitchen said the evacuation order forced operations to “pause” at some community kitchens
The World Center Kitchen (WCK) said the evacuation order had forced its operations to ‘stand still’ in some of the community kitchens the organization supports.
“The evacuation order in Rafah has forced some WCK-supported community kitchens to temporarily stop cooking today,” the organization said in a statement on Wednesday.
It came after the Israeli army on Monday ordered residents east of Rafah to evacuate ahead of a “precise counter-terrorism operation.”
More than 100,000 residents were directed to what the military called an “expanded humanitarian zone” in the town of Al-Mawasi.
Despite reduced operations, aid groups said their kitchens outside the evacuation zone continued to provide food.
“Our field kitchens and community kitchens outside the evacuation zone provided more than 168,000 meals in the communities around Rafah and Deir al-Balah,” the statement said.
The WCK, which plays a key role in securing first aid shipments to Gaza by sea, temporarily suspended all of its operations in the territory earlier this year after seven of its staff were killed by an Israeli airstrike on one of its convoys.
