The US expects a “limited scope” Israeli response to Iran, sources said
The United States expects that the Israeli military response to the Iranian attack will be limited in scope, a senior administration official and a source familiar with the intelligence told CNN.
There is US intelligence to suggest Israel is considering a narrow and limited strike inside Iran because they feel they need to respond with a certain kinetic action given the scale of the unprecedented Iranian attack, the second source said.
Israel has not formally warned the US of their plans and when they might happen, a senior administration official said.
“We hope they will warn us so that we are prepared to protect our personnel, not only military but diplomatic throughout the region,” the administration official said.
“But there’s no guarantee they’ll give us they’ll give us the head and they know when they give us the head, we might once again register our objection to whatever they’re going to do.”
The official also said that if Israel does not respond, the US is “confident that there will be a reduction” and the situation will return to the status quo.
“But any additional steps now open up a series of other possibilities, some of which are quite scary,” the senior official added.
