The NYPD used lightning strikes to breach the Columbia building where the doors were barricaded
NYPD officers used flash grenades on Tuesday night to breach Columbia’s Hamilton Hall, which protesters had barricaded themselves inside, the police department told CNN.
The building’s doors were barricaded with chairs, tables and vending machines, and the windows were covered with newspapers, the NYPD said.
When a flash-bang grenade is used, it emits a bright flash and a very loud bang, often used to stun and confuse.
Video posted by NYPD Deputy Commissioner Kaz Daughtry shows officers searching an office lined with bookshelves after breaking the door lock with a hammer.
Another video shows officers packing the stairs and passing chairs to each other.
At least 50 officers previously used the elevated ramp to climb into the building through the window.
