The Erez crossing was used to get food into Gaza for the first time, the World Food Program said

Food supplies have entered northern Gaza for the first time through the Erez crossing, which Israel agreed to open earlier this month, according to the World Food Programme.

The UN food agency said three convoys crossed through Erez on April 14, 15 and 16, with 25 trucks carrying around 404 metric tons of food packages and wheat flour.

“This is the first time food supplies have crossed into northern Gaza through the Erez crossing,” WFP said.
UN agencies have said that getting aid to northern Gaza is extremely challenging because of Israeli blockades, ongoing fighting, and debris blocking the way.

Israel earlier this month approved the reopening of the Erez crossing for the first time since the October 7 Hamas attack, as well as the use of Ashdod Port for aid. The announcement came hours after US President Joe Biden urged Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to allow more aid to Gaza.

First aid shipments to Gaza via Ashdod Port were moved on Wednesday.

Gaza is facing a worsening hunger crisis as tons of aid have been held up at various land crossings. Humanitarian workers and government officials have previously told CNN that there is a pattern of obstruction of Israeli aid to Gaza.
