Taylor Swift appears to be Charlie Puth’s ‘Hero’ in a newly dropped track
Charlie Puth thanked the “hero” in his life, and it’s pretty easy to conclude the person in question is none other than Taylor Swift.
The “One Call Away” singer dropped a new single titled “Hero” on Friday, which appears to be a response to Swift’s lyric quote last month on the title track of her latest album, “The Tortured Poets Department.”
In the song, Swift sings in the second verse, “You smoke, then eat seven chocolate bars / We declare Charlie Puth should be a bigger artist.”
On Friday night, Puth posted about his new song – which is similar to a diss song – on Instagram, in a video clip that shows him lip-syncing to the track.
In the text attached to the video, Puth admitted that “the last two weeks have been really crazy for obvious reasons,” but now he has something to share with his fans and followers.
He later wrote the new song “about a friend of mine called ‘Hero,'” and sometimes he gets “a little nervous about being too honest in my music, which is why this thing sat on my hard drive for a while.”
“But I think someone out there is giving me a sign that I need to let it go,” Puth continued.
“So… I Declare that ‘Hero’ will be out everywhere on May 24th as the first single from my new album,” he added, a lyrical nod to Swift’s declaration of “Poet.”
She wrote in the caption, “Thank you…you know who you are.”
Puth is well documented in his musical appreciation of Swift.
Not only has he famously covered his songs during concerts, but in 2022 a video of him extolling his musical talent went viral.
“Sidebar, this has nothing to do with anything — Taylor Swift is the queen of this kind of chord,” she told the audience at her New York City concert at the time, playing her song “Teardrops On My Guitar.”
