“It was the right thing to do.” Israel’s president says more humanitarian aid is flowing to Gaza
Israeli President Isaac Herzog said Sunday that Israel has dramatically increased humanitarian aid to Gaza by working with allies to conduct airdrops, open more crossings, and operate maritime routes.
He added that “it was the right thing to do.”
But, according to Herzog, there are still 135 Israeli hostages in Gaza who are “going through hell.” He told CNN’s Wolf Blitzer that Hamas does not tell Israel the names of those dead or alive, and refuses to compromise with Israel.
On Sunday, a diplomatic source familiar with the talks confirmed that Hamas rejected the latest proposal from the recent Cairo talks to reach a ceasefire in Gaza.
In its response to the mediator, Hamas “reaffirmed its position” on the unrestricted right of Gazans to return north to their homes and the redeployment of Israeli troops from central Gaza. That is a demand that Hamas has stuck to and Israel has opposed.
