Israeli military operations at the Rafah crossing will disrupt aid to Gaza, UN agencies have warned

Humanitarian aid efforts in Gaza could be brought to a halt by the Israeli army’s seizure of the Palestinian side of the Rafah border, a UN agency warned on Tuesday.

“Continued disruption of the flow of aid and fuel supplies at the Rafah crossing will halt the critical humanitarian response across the Gaza Strip,” UNRWA, the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, said in a post on the X social platform.
“The famine that people are facing especially in northern Gaza will get worse if this supply route is interrupted,” UNRWA added.

The Israeli army said it had taken control of the Palestinian side of the crossing between Gaza and Egypt, which is a key entry point for humanitarian aid to the besieged area. A Palestinian official said all movement had stopped at the facility after it was captured by Israeli tanks.

CNN has reached out to Israeli military and officials for comment on any plans to ease the delivery of aid to Gaza.
