A local reporter working for CNN saw bodies wrapped in body bags at the last functioning hospital in Rafah, with family members of the deceased seen weeping over the bodies of their loved ones.
Medical staff were also seen tending to the injured, with hospitals warning that they were not prepared to deal with the rising death toll.
The local journalist said there had been non-stop Israeli artillery fire overnight east of Rafah, with social media videos showing streets in some neighborhoods completely deserted.
