At least 13 killed, including 7 children, after attack on Al-Maghazi refugee camp in Gaza

At least 13 people were killed, including seven children, and more than 25 wounded after an attack targeted the Al-Maghazi refugee camp in central Gaza on Tuesday, according to Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital officials.

The graphic video, obtained exclusively by CNN from eyewitness Nihad Owdetallah, shows several victims scattered on the floor, including children, with blood flowing around the area.

Dozens of people were seen running around in panic, shouting and trying to count and carry the bodies. A dust-covered foosball table was visible among the bodies.

Owdetallah, who lives in the camp, told CNN he heard the explosion at about 3:40 p.m. local time on Tuesday around 30 to 40 meters away.

“I immediately walked to see what happened and found the body lying on the ground. People scream, children scream. Children die on the ground. They were just playing foosball, and they were martyred,” he said.

Footage for CNN from inside Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital showed a steady stream of victims and injured people being brought in, as the emergency room was crowded with patients, including several injured children, crying on the floor. Family members were seen crowding over the bodies of their loved ones, kissing them, holding them and sobbing. Video from inside the morgue at the hospital shows families trying to identify their loved ones among the dead. Fatmeh Issa pointed to a white body bag with the boy’s bloodied face exposed, telling CNN, “This is my son.”

Another man shouted, “They have nothing to do with anyone! They are civilians. Have mercy on us. You kill children. You don’t kill soldiers or fighters; you are killing children who are playing peacefully in the streets.”

The video shows him handing over the body of a young girl to another man, both crying verses from the Quran and sobbing. The man who received her body was seen placing her on the ground, and covering her body with a jacket, telling CNN she was his daughter.

“This is my eldest daughter…her name is Lujain, she is nine years old. A strike hit them while they were playing in the street. They are all just children,” he added.

Videos from outside the hospital compound showed people looking distressed, especially women refusing to enter the hospital, crying for their loved ones. Dozens of people were seen gathering in the courtyard of the house praying for the deceased before being taken to be buried.

CNN has reached out to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) for comment but has yet to hear back.
