Apple is working to fix the worrisome iPhone issue

Apple says it’s working quickly to fix an issue that causes some iPhone alarms to stop sounding, giving sleepy users an unexpected wake-up call.

For many people, their phone is a much-needed alarm clock and some oversleepers turn to social media to escape.

One TikTokker complained that she had set “like five alarms” and they weren’t going off.

Apple has confirmed it’s aware of the issue – but has yet to say what it believes is causing it, or what users can do to prevent late startup.

It’s also unclear how many people are affected or whether the problem is limited to specific iPhone models.

Concerns were initially raised by early risers on NBC’s Today Show, who broke the news.

In the absence of an official fix, those losing sleep over the problem can try some simple solutions.

One is to guard against human error – so double check your phone’s alarm settings and keep the volume turned up.

Others though have pointed the finger at Apple’s designers, saying the quirks of the iPhone’s “attention awareness feature” are to blame.

When active, this allows the iPhone to check whether someone is paying attention to their device and – if they are – to take action automatically, such as lowering the volume of signals, including alarms.

It’s available on the iPhone X or later, and the 11-inch iPad Pro or 12.9-inch iPad Pro, Apple said.

Some TikTokkers suggest that if a sleeping user’s face is turned towards the bedside iPhone screen, depending on the phone’s settings, the feature can be activated and the alarm silenced.

Apple said it hopes to fix the issue quickly.

But, until then, its time-zone-spanning customer base may have to do away with some retro tech, and swap TikTok for a more ancient — but reliable — alarm clock.
