74% of Israelis oppose a counterattack against Iran if it undermines the security alliance, a poll finds

A poll by the Hebrew University in Jerusalem found that 74% of those polled would oppose a counterattack against Iran “if it undermines Israel’s security alliance with its allies.”

26% supported the attack even if it would damage relations with allies.

The Hebrew University poll also found that more than half of the public believes Israel is “responding positively” to allied military and political demands.

The survey was conducted April 14-15 via the internet and telephone, and sampled 1,466 men and women representing Israeli adults, both Jewish and Arab, the university said in a statement. The margin of error is given as 4.2 percentage points.

56% of respondents believe Israel “should respond positively to political and military demands from its allies” to “ensure a sustainable defense system over time,” the statement said. Of the remainder, 32% were undecided, and 12% disagreed.

Additionally, 59% believe that US aid to Israel against Iranian attacks obligates the Israeli government to coordinate future security actions with Washington, while 26% are undecided on the matter and 15% disagree.
