Zelensky suspended all international travel, as Russian troops advanced through Kharkiv region

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will halt all international events scheduled for the coming days, his office announced on Wednesday, as Russian troops move into the northeastern region of Kharkiv.

“Volodymyr Zelenskyy has ordered that all international events involving him scheduled in the coming days be postponed and new dates adjusted,” Zelensky’s office said in a statement. “We thank our partners for their understanding.”
It comes days after Ukraine’s top army general warned that fighting had been “very severe” in Kharkiv, as Russia claimed to have captured four more villages as it widened its surprise offensive across the border.

In the spotlight: More than two years after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Zelensky has struggled to keep the spotlight on Kyiv’s military efforts to stem Moscow’s advance by strengthening ties with allies. Most recently, he thanked US lawmakers after they voted in favor of a new aid package worth nearly $61 billion. At the same time, European leaders approved a plan for regular payments to Ukraine as part of a $54 billion package.
