The US announced $2 billion in foreign military funding for Ukraine

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced Wednesday the allocation of $2 billion in military funding for Ukraine, and said much-needed weapons and ammunition were being rushed to the front lines.

“Ukraine is facing this renewed brutal Russian attack,” Blinken said during a press conference in Kyiv, speaking alongside Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba

He said he discussed the weapons delivery with Kuleba and President Volodymyr Zelensky.

“We’re attacking ammunition, armored vehicles, missiles, air defense. Rushing them to get to the front lines to protect soldiers, to protect civilians,” Blinken said, pointing out that air defense is the “top priority.”
Some background: The US State Department admitted that $2 billion in foreign military funding came primarily from the recently approved Security of Ukraine supplement, and $400 million of that came from existing Foreign Military Financing (FMF) that was not previously allocated to Ukraine.

Blinken also said Washington strongly supports the Ukraine peace summit that will take place next month in Switzerland.
