Netanyahu framed the war on Remembrance Day as a choice between Israel and the “monster” Hamas

Israel marks Memorial Day with ceremonies at Mount Herzl – Israel’s national cemetery – and elsewhere to remember its fallen soldiers.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told those at the event that the current war against Hamas, as in previous wars, represents eternal values: “love of man and nation, love of nation, willingness to sacrifice, belief in the righteousness of the way.”

Netanyahu continued: “The war is about that: either us – Israel, or them – the monster Hamas.”

“We collect and will collect a heavy price from the enemy for his criminal acts. We will realize the goal of victory, and at the center of it is the return of all our abductees home. … But the price we pay, the price paid by generations before us, this price is very heavy.”
Defense Minister Yoav Gallant told the ceremony that the current war is “the fairest war the State of Israel has ever known. This is a war without options.”

“This is a war that will continue until we bring home our hostages. We will dismantle the rule of Hamas and its military capabilities.”
